With seven long miles of flat, sandy beaches set among some of the Pacific Northwest's most spectacular scenery, Manzanita is a convenient two-hour drive from Portland, OR, and a must-see destination for beach enthusiasts of all kinds. Situated on Highway 101, you can easily explore the coastline when you're based in Manzanita. Historic Astoria is only a gorgeous 50-minute drive away, and both Tillamook and Cannon Beach are within and easy 30-minute driving distance. Manzanita vacation rentals range from rambling, family-friendly beach homes to intimate rustic cabins ideal for romantic or solo getaways. According to many travelers and residents of this coastal community, the most appealing aspects of Manzanita are those that aren't there. For instance, you won't find big box stores or noisy tourist attractions in Manzanita. Instead, you'll find a small but well-kept town center that's within walking distance of the beach and features independently owned businesses. Manzanita also has a small-but-thriving arts center that hosts local, regional, and national musical performances as well as theater and exhibitions. Nature lovers won't want to miss Oswald West State Park just north of town, where elk and other wildlife sightings are commonplace. Slightly to the south of Manzanita just off of Highway 101 is Nehalem State Park, which features more than 900 acres of wooded trails and breathtaking ocean vistas. Visitors to this park have the option of renting horses to enjoy trail or beach riding, and all parts of the park are ADA-equipped. Manzanita has a rich history as a beach resort community and was in fact founded with that purpose. Although over 500 people make this town their home, it's early resort roots are nonetheless very much in evidence.
