Gorgeous Glacier Washington is the last community before Mt.Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. It's the gateway to exciting summer and winter outdoor adventures. Search for Glacier vacation rentals and plan a trip to experience hiking, rafting, skiing, snowboarding and more in a stunning location.
Glacier lies in a valley inside Mount Baker National Recreation Area. The Mount Baker Wilderness Area and Mount Baker Ski Area are a short drive away. Outdoor enthusiasts have been coming to this former gold mining town since the early 1900s. You'll find food and Glacier vacation rentals but will need to return to Maple Falls for gas. The opening of the Mount Baker Highway in 1923 made the area more accessible. Following are some of the area's top vacation attractions.
Heliotrope Ridge Trail
You'll see beautiful waterfalls and easy-to-cross streams on this beautiful hike. The Glacier view is spectacular. You may even see marmots at the top. Since the trail is adjacent to a popular climbing route on Mount Baker, a huge parking lot is available. The trail is well-traveled and meanders among creeks with bridges, gigantic trees, and views of Mount Baker.
Table Mountain Trail
This trail is easy enough for children and the elderly to hike. It's easily accessible from the parking lot, but there will be some initial snow to walk through. The trail gets a little steeper to the top of Table Mountain, but the view is breathtaking. You'll see Mt. Shuksan on one side and Mount Baker on the other. Purchase a National Forest and Recreation day pass for $5 and do the shorter Artist Ridge Trail.
Wild & Scenic River Tours
Go on the Nooksack with Wild & Scenic for a true rafting adventure. You'll have a knowledgeable guide to help you safely down the river. Be sure to take the adrenaline-pumping plunge into the 40-degree water when the guide gives you the opportunity.
