Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is also a short 5 minutes drive away. In summer it is a favourite swimming beach and a perfect place for quiet walks, sunset picnics and views across Georgia Strait. Top Bridge Regional Park, on the Englishman River, can be reached by foot in about 20-25 minutes and is a favourite for local fresh water swimming. The river can be reached by a 3 minute walk for Fall salmon watching. The quaint town of Qualicum Beach is 15-20 minutes drive north on the Old Island Highway. And several provincial parks are reachable in under 30 minutes, including Little Qualicum Falls, Englishman River Falls, MacMillan and Spider Lake. In winter, Mount Washington Alpine Resort, about 1 hour drive north on the Inland Island Highway near Courtenay offers Vancouver Island's best skiing experience. Ravenwood Cottage is just 30 minutes drive north of the Departure Bay Terminal in Nanaimo, the shortest ferry trip from and to Vancouver.
